Finally, in one place, is a collection of the some of the most important and informed voices on the war against Islamist extremism. The most respected and talented writers of the most important books on the war interviewed by one of the countrys most accomplished broadcast journalists and commentators.
From 9/11 forward, talk show host and law professor Hugh Hewitt has brought his unique combination of skills to the task of interviewing the authors of the most important books about the war waged against the West by al Qaeda, the radical mullahs of Iran and other Islamist jihadists. These authors have ranged across the political spectrum, but each has brought superb skills to the very difficult task of explaining why 9/11 happened and the deep conflicts the war involves. The war rages across a vast number of battlefields and involves a number of countries very distant from America and at best dimly understood even by senior policy makers. Hewitt has sought out those authors whose contributions to the literature of the war are enduring, and has spent long periods of interview time on air with them. Those interviews are collected here, and provide a comprehensive and riveting primer to the war, as well as a guide to how such interviews ought to be conducted when the subject is complex and the stakes very high. These interviews are springboards to the books themselves, each one of which is on what Hewitt calls his Necessary Bookshelf.
